Check a company number
Before you sign with a supplier or a client, check that the company exists and is still active, in the official register of its country.
Which registers?
- France: the national company register (INSEE Sirene) with a SIREN or SIRET number.
- United Kingdom: Companies House, with the 8-character company number.
- United States: SAM.gov, with the UEI of companies registered with the federal government.
- Other European Union countries: VIES, the European Commission’s VAT number database.
- Norway: the Brønnøysund Register, with the 9-digit organisation number.
- Brazil: the Receita Federal, with the CNPJ.
- Australia: ABN Lookup, with the 11-digit ABN.
- India: CIN and GSTIN format check (India has no open company register).
- Any of these countries: the 20-character LEI code, in the global GLEIF database.
Sendbiz uses the same check to give companies the Verified badge. A company number is public information: a valid number tells you the company exists, not who you are talking to.
